Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical hormones are exact replicas of what the body produces. Thus not synthetic. This enables the body to recognize the hormone molecule and there will be a predictable reaction to it. Whereas  synthetic molecules are not recognized  by the body thus making unpredictable results more likely. These pellets are implanted under the skin where they are absorbed slowly but steadily to give a very steady state predictable level. They usually are replaced every 3-4 months. Blood levels are monitored closely while on these to aid in knowing when to replace them.

Bioidentical hormone therapy is used to treat an array of symptoms caused by hormone imbalances that most people experience with age.  Some of the most common symptoms are fatigue, loss of sex drive, anxiety, depression, exercise intolerance, weight gain, brain fog, and symptoms related to menopause.  Many of these affect both men and women.

This hormone therapy has been found to decrease the likelihood of osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease.

The pellets are inserted around the hip area just under the skin. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes.  The area will be numbed and the procedure is relatively painless.  There are no stitches involved. The incision is about the size of the point of a pencil.   You may resume normal activity right away but will need to refrain from extensive exercise for several days.  Dosage depends on lab results and desired outcomes.

Hormone creams may be prescribed in situations where it is either preferred by the patient or if it is the optimal course of treatment.
