Dr. John Farmer grew up in Winchester, KY as the son of a public-school librarian and World War II veteran.  He has a passion for helping to heal people and to take care of the whole person, body, mind, and spirit.  For most of his career he has been practicing in obstetrics-gynecology.  He has delivered between 8,000, 10,000 babies since 1980.

Dr. Farmer attended Georgetown College, obtaining a BA in Science.  He then attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine where he graduated with a combined MD and Master’s in Physiology and Biophysics.  He also published research on membrane transport.

Currently, Dr. Farmer’s primary practice has an emphasis on hormone replacement therapy due to how many different health conditions can be traced back to an imbalance of hormones for both men and women.  Women often complain of fatigue, low libido, weight gain, anxiety, and depression.  While Dr. Farmer still sees patients for regular GYN health, he has begun to treat men with bioidentical hormone therapy to promote sexual health, libido, depression, and anxiety.  Many of his GYN patients refer their husbands/partners to him for treatment as well.

Another significant area of practice for Dr. Farmer is addiction treatment.  He has a personal passion for treating patients with depression, particularly PTSD stemming from military service as his father was a World War II vet who suffered so immensely from PTSD and depression that he turned to alcohol to cope before taking his own life.  Dr. Farmer believes if his father would have had access to better treatment, he might have lived long enough to meet his great grandchildren.

Dr. Farmer served as the Medical Director for Nova Health in the past, a bioidentical hormone clinic located in Louisville and Cincinnati.  He currently works for himself with Louisville Hormone Replacement Therapy.  Additionally, he serves as Medical Director of Louisville Integrated Care, a company that provides primary care to residents of Wayside Christian Mission.

Dr. Farmer is licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, and Florida.
